This is the second in a series of posts I'm doing to help users get comfortable with the True Knowledge beta site. If you missed the first post click here.
This post is a brief introduction to knowledge addition. Knowledge addition is the process of adding new facts to [true knowledge], this in turn allows [true knowledge] to answer questions using these new facts.
A great way to get started is to add yourself to the knowledge base.
For this mini tutorial I have asked Daniel Ramsay (our new Systems Administrator and one of the only members of staff to have not yet added themselves to the knowledge base) to add himself to [true knowledge] while I document what he does.
The first thing to do is make sure you are on the homepage of the beta site.
Next click 'Add Knowledge' and then click 'other ways to add knowledge...'.
Now click the button labelled 'add a new person'.
Next you will need to give yourself a common name (for example if you were adding the singer Madonna you would write "Madonna" and not "Madonna Louise Ciccone Ritchie").
Depending on how common your name is you may or may not be shown this next screen. Here Daniel selected: 'This is a different Daniel Ramsay'.
The next screen will ask you to confirm that you are a human being and nothing more specific. For this screen just select 'No' and click 'Next'.
For this next screen you will need to come up with a unique description for yourself that really differentiates you from everyone else.
Once you hit next you may be asked (depending on your preferences) to confirm that your unique description is truly unique.
This next step asks you to add as many other names for yourself as you can think of (these are called 'denotational strings').
Nearly done: You now need to select a [true knowledge] ID for yourself.
And finally to insert the facts into the knowledge base, we click on 'add these facts'.
You have now successfully added yourself to the Knowledge Base.
You will now be asked some follow-up questions (called 'corefacts') about yourself; these are optional pieces of additional information that can be used to answer additional questions.
You will be asked to give a source for these corefacts, as you are adding yourself you can just select that you are the source.
Once you are done you will be able to visit your human being profile template by typing your name into the True Knowledge search box.
You can now also ask questions that will use the knowledge we've added, e.g.
What gender is Daniel Ramsay?
This question gives the answer 'male' as Daniel chose to give his gender when he was asked the follow-up (corefact) questions.
